Innovative Enterprise - the ABCD of Enterprise!

This month to inspire our readers whose role is to support the enterprise agenda in primary and secondary schools EnterpriseUpfront is highlighting Innovative Enterprise Ltd (IE).

Andrew Bernard aka Bernie, is Director of IE, a North West based company started in 2006 to work with young people and develop their enterprise skills and experiences.  Having, by his own admission, ‘done the wrong jobs’ for more than 18 years he decided that he wanted to do something fun for a living and work with young people to stop them making the same mistake he had all those years before and so IE was born.

IE now delivers Enterprise, INSET and Personal Development programmes all over the UK and Europe and has worked with over 10,000 students in the past two years.

All the programmes designed and delivered by IE are based on Bernie’s Basics of Enterprise – ABCD!  “Attitude, self-Belief, Confidence and Decision-making are the cornerstone of all enterprising people and it’s something that most of the time we give very little thought to. By teasing out these ideas through the course of an IE programme we can get students, teachers and business people to become more effective individuals and achieve more of what they want to”, says Bernie.

Here’s a small selection of IE programmes:

YourStory is a programme based on enterprise, citizenship and media where students use lots of digital equipment to make their own magazine and comic strip in teams – about an issue that is of concern to them.

Environment4Us allows students to get a grip on their carbon footprint and also looks at sustainable food production, innovation in the environment and also includes a ReCyclothes Show – we show Gok how it’s done!

Eco-Fish is a game in a box that emphasises economics, enterprise, politics and sustainability of a global resource.

Enterprise Soapbox is the ultimate workshop tool which allows students to learn about science, enterprise, product design, manufacturing, marketing and promotion. Schools can even make money from the sale of the soaps they make.
IE recently developed the Enterprise Soapbox kit to enable younger students to get to grips with the concepts of enterprise, teamwork, design, art, the environment and links to history and language all in one topic.
