National Enterprise Academy - Update

If you know someone aged 16-18 years old with an aptitude for enterprise it might be worth updating them on the progress of the National Enterprise Academy (NEA) and signposting them to the NEA prospectus.

The newly established National Enterprise Academy founded by well-known entrepreneur and ‘TV Dragon’ Peter Jones CBE has launched its new website www.thenea.org.

Peter Jones’ passion to improve the entrepreneurial capabilities of the UK led to the development of the NEA which has the backing of Prime Minster Gordon Brown.

The NEA will deliver the UK’s first full-time accredited courses in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and is currently delivering a pilot programme to students aged 16-17 years old.

Level 2 and 3 courses will give students the skills, experience and support to learn how to set up and run successful and innovative businesses, or to become enterprising employees, helping to grow existing businesses. Details of the course modules are available in the NEA prospectus.

Applications for September 2009 are now being accepted from those aged between 16 -18 years. The closing date for applications is 5pm, Wednesday 29th April. The NEA brochure outlines the courses entrance requirements.

The North West Academy will be located on the Manchester College site and the South East Academy will be located at the Amersham & Wycombe College, Buckinghamshire. NEA location advice suggests that students should preferably live within approximately one hour’s travelling distance from the NEA. Full information and details about how to apply are available by clicking here.

NEA students will benefit from engaging with a number of leading business people in the delivery of courses with the emphasis on learning through experience rather than textbook.

Business leaders will get involved in the NEA through guest speaking, mentoring, lecturing and offering meaningful work experience placements.

The NEA aims to become an internationally-recognised centre of excellence for enterprise and entrepreneurship.

The new website offers visitors the opportunity to subscribe to the NEA newsletter which will keep subscribers up to date with everything they need to know.
