Spotlight on the Enterprise Education Trust Part 2

The Enterprise Education Trust is one of the UK’s leading business and enterprise education charities and has been providing interactive programmes for 14-19 year old students for over 30 years.  Having previously highlighted Achievers International, this month’s focus is on businessdynamics, the most established of the Trust’s programmes.

businessdynamics aims to bring business to life for young people.  Volunteers from companies introduce students to the opportunities and challenges through a series of one and two day business programmes, as well as improving their key skills in preparation for the world of work.

The programme takes students into companies and takes people from companies to students, to inspire and share with them the exciting world of business and enterprise. Last year Trust programmes reached almost 47,000 students throughout the UK.

Hundreds of businessdynamics volunteers go into schools every year to engage with students and motivate them to become tomorrow’s business leaders, managers and entrepreneurs.

The main programmes on offer are:

Financial Capability – This new one-day programme called ‘Your Money’ is for 14-16 year old students and focuses on developing basic financial skills to ensure that students are able to understand and cope with major financial decisions later in life.

Business Awareness – These two-day interactive programmes give 16-19 year old students an understanding of business and its crucial role in the economy.

Key Skills – These one-day programmes, designed for 14-16 year olds, improve numeracy, team working, problem solving, communication skills and creative thinking.

In addition the Trust also delivers tailored programmes to young offenders and students with special needs and can customise its programmes to link to schools’ enterprise activities.

Programmes are interactive, challenging and fun.  They have been developed with schools and colleges; are curriculum-complementary and have the backing of major companies.  Students participating often leave with ideas for a business and a new attitude towards business.

Recent research found that generally as few as 34% of students in the target age range of 14-19 have a positive impression of business.  The Trust reports however that after a businessdynamics programme this rises to 98%.

Next month we’ll be taking a look at the third part of the Trust, the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), which offers an accredited curriculum in entrepreneurship to disadvantaged students.
