Find out why Make Your Mark bother with enterprise

The role of championing and co-ordinating enterprise in schools, colleges, universities and communities can at times be a daunting task which can seem insurmountable. To help overcome any challenging moments and reinforce that all the hard work and effort is worth applying, it’s good to share and raise awareness of successes.

Enterprise Insight, the people who run the Make Your Mark (MYM) campaign, have done just that and written Why Bother?  The easy to read document highlights the successes of the MYM campaign and sets out why MYM bother with enterprise.

Being aware of the impact the MYM campaign is making across the UK also provides inspiration and motivation to enterprise supporters when things are tough.

Why Bother? provides:

• Background to the MYM campaign (its beginnings, vision and funding)
• An overview of what enterprise is and how it impacts on society
• An insight into what is being done to support enterprise (highlighting that not everything takes place in London)
• Inspirational examples of individuals who have unleashed their ideas
• Examples of organisations in the UK that are supporting the enterprise agenda

We have heard countless times before from government that during these current troubled economic times it is imperative that we create an enterprise culture in the UK. We need enterprising people and communities to grasp new opportunities to help us overcome the obstacles we currently face. Why bother? is about more than just reinforcing this. Why bother? proves that those words are not empty by providing an overview of how the Government’s commitment to the MYM campaign is helping achieve a more enterprising culture in the UK.

Enterprise Week event figures over the past 5 years highlight that international interest in enterprise is growing, so much so in fact that the week has now been named Global Entrepreneurship Week and become part of an international movement of entrepreneurial people with over 75 countries involved. Activity levels have increased dramatically with 1,172 events being held in 2004 to 6,363 in the UK and 24,966 worldwide in 2008.

If you ever feel like you’re on your own driving enterprise forward in your school, college, university and community, the Why Bother? report provides a useful overview of the organisations MYM work with to achieve the ambitious vision of an enterprising UK and to ensure the enterprise agenda is at the forefront of businesses’ minds.
