From implicit to explicit - Encouraging Social Entrepreneurship in a Higher Education Context
Author and educator of entrepreneurship, Therese Moylan presents ‘From Implicit to Explicit – Encouraging Social Entrepreneurship in a Higher Education Context’; a case study based article on a new programme run by a Dublin higher education college.
The article addresses student involvement with socio-cultural issues in a modern context, giving particular focus to Social Entrepreneurship as a means of doing so.
Therese states that while the life experience gained by a students at university level is peripheral and certainly not assessed in any formal way, the introduction of a framework of national qualifications in Ireland focuses specifically on the development of skills as opposed to more traditional areas of study while still remaining the context of the chosen area of study.
The framework is critiqued in the context of the recession and argues the necessity for universities to encourage the development of critical and practical thinking in its students.
