When referring specifically to enterprise, the paper outlines that the Government wants to encourage young people to develop their entrepreneurial skills and behaviours because the contribution of entrepreneurs and those who undertake enterprising activity is crucial for driving the growth of UK businesses. Their proposed ‘Enterprise Strategy’ aims to give students an insight into the world of employment and self-employment and to raise aspirations, with a particular emphasis on currently under-represented groups.
Enterprise education is designed as a continuous journey of enterprise learning from primary to tertiary levels and encourages students to be creative and innovative, to take risks and to manage them and to do this with determination and drive.
Make your mark with a Tenner
The strategy is largely in support of the Make Your Mark campaign, run
by Enterprise UK, which works with young people to empower them through
the promotion of enterprise and entrepreneurship and to change their
attitudes, and the attitudes of those who influence them, so that they
are more likely to consider running their own business as a viable
alternative to more traditional occupational activity.
Make Your Mark’s latest challenge for young entrepreneurs Make your mark
with a Tenner is now up and running. The challenge works by loaning
young people £10 with which they must try to make a profit and make a
difference in just one month – March 2010 to be precise.
Registration closes on Thursday 11th February. Teachers and tutors will
be able to apply online to receive tenners for their young people.
