Getting British Business Online

Statistics have shown that over 1.5million SME’s in the UK are without a website, which could leave them falling behind other businesses already online considering the 41million internet users in the country today.

In order to offer a helping hand to these underrepresented SME’s, a powerhouse of partnerships has been formed with the aim of getting 100,000 businesses online in 2010 by giving them their first website or by dramatically improving their existing one.

Google Enterprise UK and E-Skills are all working together, with the support of the Department for Business Innovation & Skills, to help ‘Get British Business Online’ – for free.

Businesses taking part will benefit form a free website, set up instantly by following a 20 minute step by step guide leaving them with a ‘co.uk’ web address managed by themselves with the option to add maps, addresses, photos and any other additional information. They will then also be added to Google maps and the Google Search Index.

The initiative also invites organisations who have active and supportive relationships with SME’s such as enterprise and development agencies, to become partners and raise awareness of the campaign in order to reach as many businesses across the UK as possible that are likely to benefit from the campaign.

Becoming a partner has its benefits also thanks to the high profile nature of the initiative providing a huge PR and advertising campaign and presence on the campaign website.
