Doug Richard states that “The Entrepreneurs Manifesto is a public declaration aimed at supporting the UK’s 4.4million small business owners and entrepreneurs.”
In an extremely passionate review of the past few months of recession and looking forward to a potential new government, the manifesto highlights the climate of fear that small businesses live in as a result of the economic downfall and addresses the unfair division of wealth in the country as well as discussing how the UK has fallen victim to capitalism.
The second and final part of the manifesto – ‘The Entrepreneurs Declaration of Rights’ suggests that the UK is on the cusp of entrepreneurial success that will not only bring the country out of the recession but propel the nation into a wave of growth a prosperity and remain competitive on a global scale. He continues to say that this is only possible if people truly understand the nature of entrepreneurialism, which can only happen if the government changes it’s priorities concerning enterprise. Mr Richard’s suggested actions to achieve this include:
• Removing the Government funded industry of business support
• Make personal wealth and savings readily available for investment in nascent businesses
• Stop paying people to be unemployed but spend the money teaching them to be employable.
• Speeding up the time it takes to set up in business by streamlining
the effort of complying with government regulation and exempt the
smallest businesses from many of the regulations entirely.
• Recognising the government as the largest customer in the UK – it must
adopt a requirement that a specific percentage of all of it’s
procurement will be through SMEs.
• Increasing the amount of people who feel empowered to take risks in
business and become entrepreneurial – stop being overprotective as a
state.
