Enterprising Young Brits

The 2010 Enterprising Young Brits competition was officially launched on 12 January by the Secretary of State Lord Mandelson. The competition, which recognises the achievements of young entrepreneurs aged 13 to 30, is run by Enterprise UK and supported by the Daily Mail, the Institute of Directors and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

The competition celebrates young entrepreneurs who have made their business idea a reality in a new, innovative and inspiring way.

Examples of such inspiration include a diverse range of successful new businesses from catering companies to music promotions - with some entrants setting up in business while still at school.

Many of the businesses that are set up are ethical and problem solving enterprises that source fair trade produce as well as identifying gaps in the market for underrepresented groups.

One example of which is former entrant Dean Rhodes-Brandon who runs ‘Your Local Cinema’, an innovative not-for-profit website and information service that’s designed to help those who are hearing or visually impaired to fully enjoy the cinema experience.
