Giving Nation Challenge
The Giving Nation Challenge is an active learning programme for students in secondary schools and is financially supported by the Citizenship Foundation.
It aims to bolster education on charities, social enterprises and
individual giving. It does this by providing a unique new
curriculum-based active learning resource and a grant to help schools
get going.
The challenge allows students to gain real-life understanding and
learning through this dynamic and creative process of creating a short
lived social enterprise. It inspires team work, highlights project
management skills and community involvement along with all the benefits
of an enterprise and citizenship project.
The Challenge:
Students will be provided with £50 per class to get them started. It can
be used to start up a social enterprise, to fundraise for a charity or
to start a campaign on behalf of a cause they feel strongly about. The
challenge take place over a period of approximately five weeks
throughout which the students plan, organise and execute their activity.
At the end of this period all activities cease. Classes then evaluate their activities - against real-life charities, and against each other. A prize may be given to the most successful class. The Challenge is designed to be self sustaining. The first £50 made by each class must be kept for future years’ projects.
The programme provides all the resources needed to take student groups through the processes of forming their social enterprise. Teachers are supplied with lesson plans and support materials designed to guide the participants through the process methodically – from deciding which issue the team would like to address to evaluating the campaigns progress and success.
