The scheme uses football clubs as a key engagement tool to introduce young people to enterprise and helps promote the enterprise message to the wider community.
The delivery of enterprise education using football clubs as real life case studies will see 13-14 year olds students developing their enterprise capabilities and business and economic understanding in a way they can relate to and understand.
While launching the scheme at Manchester City John Hutton said:
“I want to see the UK at the top of the international league and become the most enterprising nation in the world. Using real football club examples this scheme will teach young people how to manage a budget, raise finance and look after customers – essential skills for any entrepreneur.”
On a proposed enterprise programme students would:
- Have a tour of the stadium covering the functions of departments and roles of staff
- Be briefed on how the football club operates as a business
- Participate in challenges designed to improve enterprise skills
- And learn about the world of work and enterprise.
Building on the successful implementation of Accredited OCR Examinations by Middlesbrough Enterprise Academy students will also be given the opportunity to gain formal recognition of their hard work with incentives such as player visits or match tickets being offered to encourage successful completion.
The Premier League along with Regional Development Agencies and schools will share the cost of this exciting scheme.
