Discover how recommendations to Government will help shape world class education

The National Council for Educational Excellence (NCEE) developed by the Prime Minister in June 2007 has made recommendations to Government which would see stronger links between schools and local businesses being formed.  The Council which brings together experts from business and education across England was developed to provide advice to Government on measures to help create world-class education.

The NCEE recommendations document highlights that in schools and colleges where quality business partnerships exist, students gain increased motivation and subject relevance, are provided with an insight into the world of work and have increased development of entrepreneurial skills.

The recommendations include:

  • Raising the aspirations of children, especially those in deprived areas through the provision of University campus visits for older Primary school children.  The Sutton Trust has offered to pilot this scheme
  • Gaining support from employers for a national framework for business engagement which would see effective links between schools and businesses being formed by 2010
  • Improving Information Advice and Guidance in schools to provide more timely advice at an early age
  • Identifying good practice in partnerships between schools and business should be highlighted and promoted
  • Every school and college identifying a staff member to take responsibility for the development and nurturing of relationships with business.

Following the Governments acceptance of the recommendations the next Council meeting will be to discuss their implementation.
