A £0.5m Legacy

The closure of Enterprise UK, following the government’s decision to end the organisation's grant-in-aid funding from April 2011 will leave a legacy of £0.5m for organisations with similar objectives to take advantage of.
Tom Bewick, Chief Executive of the charity announced at the end of January that Enterprise UK will be subject to an orderly wind down of the charity with immediate effect following a Board meeting of the charity’s trustees that determined it was the only viable option.
While commitments to on going campaigns such as make your mark and Global Entrepreneurship Week will be honoured the charity will aim to have closed down their offices and activities by the end of April 2011.
Enterprise UK still
has some modest assets, expertise and unrestricted reserves of approximately
£0.5 million. Over the next few weeks similar charitable organisations will be
invited to put in an expression of interest to continue some of the enterprise
promotion work of Enterprise UK, including proposals
for how they might use the gift-aid of £0.5 million once the organisation has
been wound up.
