ISBE Special Interest Groups
The Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurs (ISBE) has formed a new special interest group, the Gender and Enterprise Network (GEN).
Launched at the recent ISBE conference in London, GEN aims to encourage high-quality research exploring issues surrounding gender and enterprise and promote knowledge exchange.
The group aims to give its membership (male and female) the opportunity to create and exchange knowledge about how gender processes affect entrepreneurship experiences. ISBE have plans to host a broad range of activities including research seminars, online discussions, the ‘GEN Chats’ discussion series, a gender ‘book’ club and affiliated academic publication opportunities.
With support from an international panel of gender and entrepreneurship experts including Professor Patricia Greene (Babson College), Prof. Helle Neergaard (Aarhus University) and Professors Susan Marlow and Monder Ram (De Montford University) the group has had a positive start and is confident that GEN will continue to deliver innovative and valuable contributions to the gender and enterprise communities of interest.
The first GEN event: ‘Think-Space on Gender and Entrepreneurship’ will be hosted by the groups Chair, Dr Julia Rouse, at Manchester Metropolitan University, on 15-16th March 2011.
Two leading gender theorists - Professor Harriet Bradley (Bristol University) and Dr Fidelma Ashe (University of Ulster) - will present ideas about researching masculinities and femininities and gender divisions. The group will be facilitated to explore how this gender theory can inform our understanding of entrepreneurship. Newcomers and more experienced researchers in gender theory are welcome – women and men. The seminar costs £90 (£75 for full-time students).
